TENT CHURCH ("TENT," "we," "us," or "our") cares about your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the TENT CHURCH mobile app or this website (together, the "Service"), you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account info — your name, email address, and optional phone number when you create an account.
- Profile info — your campus selection, your default campus, and any photo or display name you set.
- Content you create — messages and posts you write in group chats, schedule assignments, event RSVPs, and check-ins.
- Giving info — gifts are processed by our giving partner (Subsplash). Payment details are handled by Subsplash and are not stored on TENT's servers.
- Contacts (only if you choose) — if you tap "Add from contacts" to find people already on TENT, the app reads your device contacts on your device to match phone numbers against existing members. We never upload, store, or sell your address book — only the numbers needed for that one-time lookup are checked, you choose who to add individually, and you can decline or revoke contacts access at any time in your device settings.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage data — device model, OS version, app version, and basic interaction data needed to make the app work and improve it.
- Push notification tokens — a per-device token from Apple or Google that lets us send you the notifications you've opted in to. Tokens cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Crash & performance data — anonymized crash reports and performance traces to help us fix bugs.
2. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account.
- To deliver the core features of the Service: campus updates, events, group chats, schedules, requests, and giving.
- To send you the notifications you have explicitly opted in to (e.g. group messages, followed-campus posts, event reminders).
- To improve the app, fix bugs, and prevent abuse.
- To communicate important changes to the Service.
3. What is visible to other users
We separate your private data from your public profile so other users only see what you choose to share.
- Public — your display name (and avatar, if set). Visible to other signed-in users in places like group member sheets and post bylines.
- Private — your email address, phone number, and campus preferences. Never visible to other users.
- Group content — messages and schedules in a group are visible only to that group's members.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us operate the Service (Google Firebase for backend infrastructure, Apple/Google for push notifications, Subsplash for giving).
- To comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights and safety of TENT CHURCH, our users, and the public.
- With your consent, for any other purpose disclosed at the time.
5. Data security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted connections (TLS), authentication, and granular database security rules. No system is perfect — please use a strong password and let us know right away if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or accounting reasons.
7. Your choices
- Edit your info — update your name, campus, and phone number from the Account tab in the app at any time.
- Mute or unfollow — silence specific groups or unfollow campuses from your notification settings.
- Disable notifications — turn them off in your device's system settings.
- Delete your account — email privacy@tentchurch.app from the address tied to your account.
8. Children's privacy
TENT CHURCH is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has shared information with us, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. International users
The Service is operated from Canada. By using the Service, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in Canada and other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of an update means you accept the revised policy.
